General Class
Format
The
Fundamentals Class begins with
stretching and warm up exercises and then progresses to the various
techniques of Aikido. The participants in the Open Class will
be
warmed up and stretched prior to the start of the class so that class
continues with techniques.
Beginners and advanced students are paired
together while each person studies at their own level. Rather
than being opponents, as in most other martial arts, the paired
students are partners
in learning Aikido.
As there's no competition between partners,
the study becomes one of mutual exploration in momentum and the
redirection of energy. For each student, half the class is
spent being attacked while the other half is spent attacking--the
learning process applies to both functions.
The
focus during each class is usually on the basic techniques of Aikido
including the 3 most important fundamentals: Position, position and
position. We do have fun, though, and we sometimes delve into
the
more esoteric aspects of the art.
